Arthroscopic Treatment in Synovial Chondromatosis of the Hip

Abstract

|
Purpose: We wished to evaluate the usefulness of arthroscopy in synovial chondromatosis at the hip joint.
Materials and Methods: Six patients were diagnosed with synovial chondromatosis and they underwent synovectomy with loose body removal using arthroscopy. All the patients were followed up for at least one year. The result were assessed using the Haris Hip Score (HHS).
Results: Most of the patient had satisfactory result, wand there were no surgical complications. The mean HHS score was significantly improved from 40 points to 90 points at the last follow up.
Conclusion: The arthroscopic synovectomy and loose body removal is a simple and effective procedure to treat synovial chondromatosis of the hip joint.
